Global Energy Storage (GES) has announced the appointment of Graham Sharp as a Non-Executive Director.

Graham started his career in the commodities sector, first at Marc Rich and then as a co-founder of Trafigura, where he led the oil trading team until his retirement.

More recently, he was a Senior Vice President for international trade at TNK-BP and, for eight years, Chairman of Puma Energy. In addition to his role with GES, Graham is also a Senior Advisor to Oliver Wyman and is an active investor in the renewable energy sector, having sat on the board of a number of successful start-ups.

Graham will bring extensive energy industry experience to GES, which includes a wide network of contacts that will help the company achieve rapid growth. Graham will also support GES on its ‘new energies’ strategy, which GES sees as a key component in the energy transition - both in the hydrogen fuels and hydrogen carriers space.

GES was launched in May this year, and is backed by Bluewater, the private equity firm specialising in the energy transition. GES is focused on key global hubs and growth locations, international cross-linking business, and long-term relationships with top-tier energy suppliers. Its specialism is low carbon and energy transition fuels and related infrastructure and logistics services.

Graham holds a first-class honours degree in Engineering, Economics and Management from Oxford University.

Peter Vucins, CEO of GES, said: “Graham brings a wealth of experience from the energy trading and midstream space and will contribute significantly to the strategic development of our company. I am confident that his network and in-depth industry expertise will be of great value to GES as we seek to add value to our partners by developing the logistics and storage infrastructure that is needed to facilitate the energy transition.”

Martin Somerville, Managing Director at Bluewater, adds: “GES has a strong business proposition, the foundation of which is the experience and quality of its management team and its board. Graham adds to that greatly and will play a significant part in GES’ progress, expansion and project development.”
