Chart celebrates ISO container milestone

Tanks and Terminals,

It is now more than 25 years since Chart pioneered the concept of cryogenic ISO shipping containers and delivered its first units.

The units were originally developed for the safe, economical and convenient transport by road, rail and water, of atmospheric and technical gases for industry and leisure. The standard 20 ft and 40 ft containers are now widely used for LNG and are key components in Chart’s small scale LNG solutions, facilitating the use of natural gas as a clean-burning, economical fuel alternative to diesel and other distillates.

ISO containers are integral to the company’s skid mounted natural gas vehicle (NGV) fuelling stations, on-board ship fuelling systems and satellite stations. They also feature as tender cars for natural gas powered locomotives.

In 2016, Chart delivered an LNG virtual pipeline solution enabling the power station on the island of Madeira, Portugal, to burn natural gas, despite not being connected to the pipeline grid. The intermodal containers can be seen in the video below.
