The collaboration assessed technical alternatives for CO2 imports by rail and exports by ship. The terminal is designed to support carbon capture and storage (CCS) by enabling the transport of CO2 to offshore storage sites.
The deal is for a 20-year sale and purchase agreement for LNG offtake of 1.5 million tpy on a free on board basis from the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 development project.
The agreement covers port management, container handling, and feeder container ship services for the Borouge Container Terminal in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi.
The pipeline forms part of Glenfarne’s broader Alaska LNG development, which includes a proposed 1300 km (807-mile) natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to the southern coast near Anchorage, a gas treatment plant, LNG import terminal, and LNG export facility.
Set to be the largest of its kind in the country, the terminal is being developed in partnership with the ASAS Group of Companies, whose involvement will help extend the terminal’s impact well beyond Tanzania’s borders.
