Tanks and Terminals,
Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk is using the software of UAB-Online to optimise their liquid bulk handling process for sea shipping operations. At this site, basic chemicals that originate from petroleum are manufactured.
After using the inland shipping software of UAB-Online and after its integration at the Shell Chemicals Park Rotterdam (Pernis) in May 2024, it is a logical step for Shell to integrate the SaaS platform in Moerdijk as well. Using UAB-Online’s software solution makes both the sea and inland shipping operation for Shell and their stakeholders easier, safer, more efficient and sustainable.
About Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk
Since the late 1960s, Shell's chemical complex has been located in the industrial and port area of Moerdijk. Around 900 Shell employees and 400 contractors work there. This site houses numerous factories that produce basic chemicals year-round, which are used in everyday products. These chemicals are derived from petroleum and primarily supplied via underground pipelines from Shell Pernis to Moerdijk's central processing unit, the 'cracker' (ethylene plant). The cracker breaks down large molecules into smaller ones, which are then sent to other factories on-site, back to Pernis, or to customers for further processing. Shell Moerdijk covers 325 ha., with a production capacity of 4.5 million tpy, and employs about 1300 people daily. Half of the raw materials arrive by pipeline, 45% by ship, and the remaining 5% by train and road transport.
Digitise processes for sea and inland shipping
Numerous facets of Shell Chemical Park Moerdijk operations are improved and digitised. For example the SSSCL for seagoing vessels and the improved ADN checklist for inland shipping. In both cases, UAB-Online provides the form with logic and validations so that Shell can fill out the document faster, more efficiently and without errors. Now, Shell can run digitally through all their checks together with the person responsible on board and enter all the checks and rechecks.
Furthermore, the pre-arrival announcement for sea and inland terminals optimises the vessels total port call. The SaaS platform of UAB-Online provides, collects and requests important pre-arrival information and documents beforehand. Documents, like SSSCL, Operational arrangements, ADN, CDNI or terminal specific documents are available in a dedicated file for every announcement in the platform.
