HES International has joined the German Carbon Management Allianz to advance Europe's CO2 infrastructure.

As Europe continues to strengthen its approach to energy security, the role of effective carbon management is becoming increasingly important. Creating reliable pathways for the reduction, capture, transport, and permanent storage of CO2 is essential for enabling industries to meet their decarbonisation goals while ensuring a resilient energy system for the future. The German Carbon Management Allianz plays a key role in this development. The Alliance brings together organisations that are committed to reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the scale up of carbon capture and permanent sequestration solutions across Germany and Europe.

With plans to develop CO2 export terminals in Wilhelmshaven and Rotterdam, HES are working to create essential logistical links within the emerging European carbon value chain. These terminals will enable industrial customers to access reliable CCS solutions, supporting their transition to lower carbon production processes. Through its involvement in the CO2nnectNow project at the Energy Hub in Wilhelmshaven; developed in collaboration with partner Wirtschaftsförderung Wilhelmshaven and member Harbour Energy; HES are contributing to the creation of an efficient and scalable CO2 value chain. The ambition is clear: to develop Wilhelmshaven into a central hub for carbon management in Europe. As one of Europe’s leading terminal and warehouse logistics companies, HES International brings experience in safe, reliable, and high quality terminal operations. This expertise forms the foundation for its growing role in the field of carbon management. By combining operational capabilities with strategic partnerships, the company aims to support early movers and industrial companies with early access to CCS infrastructure.

“We look forward to working with the Alliance and its members to advance carbon management solutions and accelerate progress towards a more sustainable industrial landscape” said Otto Waterlander, Director New Energies at HES International.

Coen Janssen, Terminal Manager at Wilhelmshaven, added: “HES’s ambition is to lead the transformation of Wilhelmshaven into the main German low carbon energy hub with the development of a CO2 export terminal and the development of infrastructure for the import of hydrogen-(derivative) imports.”
